What is a micro-simulation?
A micro-simulation is a short practice scenario built around one real situation, such as a suspicious phone call or an urgent payment request. You play it in about a minute and it shows how you would handle the moment under pressure.
An example
Here is how one begins. You read a situation like this.
A caller says they are the finance director of a business account. They are travelling and need $48,000 wired to a new beneficiary before 3 PM. When you mention verification, they say they will close every account.
You then choose the response that keeps to procedure, finish the procedure in one sentence, and pick the right action before a five second clock runs out. One situation is played over three rounds.
How you play one
- On the Drills screen, choose the micro-simulation you want and select it.
- Read the short guide, then start the drill. Keys 1, 2 and 3 pick the options.
- See your results at the end. Anything you missed comes back later in a gentle rebound drill.
What a micro-simulation file is
Each micro-simulation is stored in one small file that ends in .json. It holds the situations, the choices and which choice is correct, and it holds nothing about any person. You add a file with the “Add a micro-simulation” button on the Drills screen, and it is then saved on your own device so you can play it.
Where to get one
You do not need to add anything to start, because Latency Lab already comes with ready-made micro-simulations. If your organisation has its own procedures, the risk operations team there can send you files for them, or you can create your own.
How to create your own
- Open the Simulation library. It is in the Risk operations workspace of the app.
- Select “Copy the instructions”, paste them into an AI assistant you already use, and add one sentence about the scam or situation you want people to practise.
- Copy the assistant’s whole answer, paste it into the box on the library screen, and select “Check and save to play”. If something is wrong you are told exactly what to fix, and if it is fine the micro-simulation is saved on your device and you can play it from the Drills screen.
- Go back to Drills. Your new micro-simulation is there, ready to play.
The scenarios are practice material, so always check them against your own organisation’s real procedures before staff use them.
Is adding a file safe?
The app checks every file before adding it and refuses anything that is not a valid micro-simulation. Files stay on your device. If your organisation signs its files, the app also shows whether a file came from a team your device trusts.
